The Best of #Instavangogh

As Van Gogh Repetitions winds down, so too does our #instavangogh competition. We were blown away by the creativity, enthusiasm, and fun people had with our beard cutouts modeled after the Postman Joseph Roulin. Here’s just a few of our favorites.

These irresistibly cuddly pets who sent our cute-o-dometers off the charts:

These creative thinkers who took their beards one step further than most; students from the Nysmith School in Virginia created their own colorful versions, and the folks from the Auberge Ravoux, van Gogh’s last home, sent #instavangogh greetings from across the ocean.

Since the opening of the exhibition, visitors to Van Gogh Repetitions have been giving us their best impressions of the Postman Joseph Roulin in the hopes of winning one of four monthly prizes. The competition has been fierce, and the three above winners have taken home prizes for October, November, and December. Our final winner will be selected on January 20, 2014; so grab your beard cutout at the Phillips museum shop and Instagram or Tweet a photo with it using #instavangogh for a chance to win a Van Gogh Repetitions exhibition catalogue.

Find inspiration on our #instavangogh Pinterest board. Helpful hint: all attendees to the Dutch Discoveries Phillips after 5 on January 2 will receive a free beard cutout!

Get Creative with #Artlympics

It’s the final weekend to participate in the #Artlympics, a self-declared “absurd competition to enjoy museums in a new way.” Through Sunday, September 29, the #Artlympics invite you to head to any museum in the world and submit Instagram photos of your experience in categories like Best Art Remake, Best Art Caption, and Best New Art Series. Do you bear a striking resemblance to that dashing portrait of a 19th-century gentleman? #BestArtSelfie. Has that one sculpture always reminded you Star Wars? #BestNewArtTitle. Do you have a fun picture idea that doesn’t fit into any category? #BestWhatever. The sky is the limit—so head to the Phillips this weekend and get creative! Phillips staff created a few examples above for inspiration. Follow along to see what others around the world are coming up with.
