The 24 year old Russian-American violinist Yevgeny Kutik came to The Phillips Collection recently to perform a Sunday Concert. Playing works by Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky, Debussy, and Wieniawski, Kutik displayed depth of both technical and emotional precision throughout the concert. But, he did more. Kutik delivered more than a handful of those special notes, or special moments… moments that rise above any literal interpretation, above the intellect, and hit you in the gut, making you cry, smile, or just think to yourself, “Cool!”
