Cupid’s Story

You may have noticed, among the sea of knit hearts, a cuddly cupid greeting you from a nearby tree as you entered The Phillips Collection last week. Meet his maker 12-year-old knitter, Antonia Harrison.

Antonia Jane Harrison started knitting in November 2008 because she wanted colorful, comfortable socks. She is a self-taught and fearless knitter and crocheter. Antonia is currently knitting her way through 2012 with a pair of socks each month. She loves to make toys and designed the pattern for a unicorn (pictured above), modifying Hansi Singh’s Jackalope pattern. Antonia knit the cupid for our project without a pattern, using scrap yarn from her stash. She loves to hang out at The Yarn Spot in Wheaton and Looped Yarn Works in Dupont Circle. After experiencing a yarn crawl last summer in Philadelphia, Antonia is planning a yarn crawl for her 13th birthday.
